II. Introduction and Instructions

This guide is for the "Gospel According to John" - New King James Version. The purpose is to provide a daily Bible study guide to the Book that is perhaps one of the most important Books of the Word of God.

To find a reference like John 16.13, the first number (16) is the chapter and the next number (13) is the verse. Usually, in the context of the book, the chapter number is large and the verse number is small.

The objective is for the student to learn the word and the will of God with the help of study and the Holy Spirit. (John 14.25 - 27 and 16.13) The Bible says in 1 Timothy 2.4, "He (God) who wants all men to be saved and come to the knowledge of the truth." God wants all of us to grow in His truth and our relationship with Him. Each Bible study is a passage of Scripture for each day. The student must read and study every day with much prayer. A brief comment is provided each time. Each time, we must: 1.) pray & read the passage, 2.) write the title of the passage, 3.) write the reference of the passage, 4.) write the date, 5.) write the reference of the key verse [what is individual and/or personal of each person], 6.) write what is happening in this Bible passage and it’s main teachings, 7.) who are the main characters in this passage?, 8.) the central truth, 9.) the other truths, 10.) suggested questions, 11.) possible answers and 12.) the answer to the question: How can I apply this passage in my life today?

Remember, the truths and thoughts are yours with the help of the Holy Spirit and prayer. The brief comment included for #6.) “write what is happening in this Bible passage and it’s main teachings”, is just a help.  Always seek advice from a mature Christian friend when in doubt.

The first study, John 1:1 - 18, has been done to give an example. Please fill in with your own words with the following monthly studies.

To all who received him (the Word), to all who believe in him (the Word), he gave them the right to be children of God. In other words, to be real and true children of God, we must "receive" the Word by "believing" in Him. Verse 17 tells us that grace and truth is through the Word, Jesus Christ. Have you received and been spiritually reborn by the Holy Spirit of God through your belief in Jesus?

7. Who are the main characters in this Passage?: Jesus, Apostle John

8. The Central Truth: Jesus is The Word, He was, is and will be our Creator and Savior.

9. Other Truths: Jesus is The Light in a dark world.

10. Suggested Questions: In verse 11, who are "Jesus' own”?

11. Possible Answers: The people of God of the Old Testament, the Jews.

12. How can I apply this passage in my life today? Jesus wants us to be his light in a dark world.
