This page begins a new section of simple and brief Bible studies dealing with the doctrine of salvation. The underlined/bold words are to call attention to the teachings of these words with a brief commentary below.

Ephesians 2:8-9, “8 For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, 9 not of works, lest anyone should boast.”
grace - the undeserved and unconditional love of God to us through Jesus Christ
faith - "Faith is the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not seen." "And without faith it is impossible to please God," Hebrews 11: 1, 6a
gift - a gift from God, we receive it freely from God, we do not have to do anything of our physical effort to receive it, only a true faith
not of works - forgiveness of sin (salvation) is free if we have faith that what Jesus did on the cross is sufficient. We can do nothing out of our own physical efforts or goodness to gain forgiveness.

John 3:16, “16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”
loved - God first loved us by His grace
world - write your name here _______________
Son - the second person of the Divine Trinity, God Himself
believes - we are saved by faith, belief. Not everyone is saved, only those who believe and make the decision to accept/receive Jesus
everlasting life - without end, not temporary, is forever

John 1:12-13, “12 But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name: 13 who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.”
received - we must make the decision of action of faith (RECEIVE)
become children - we are real children of God with all rights
believe - the action of having faith, of believing to receive Jesus
blood - flesh - man - neither the family, nor the community, nor the church can force or transmit salvation to another. Only by one’s own self conscience and will can a decision be made in response to the convicting power of God’s Holy Spirit.
