1. INDUCTIVE – This form of Bible Study is given below in today’s study of 1 Thess. 5:16 – 18. This can be a group study but it is also a good individual private study.

The sole purpose of this type of Bible study is that the individual with the guidance of the Holy Spirit seeks to better understand God’s word through prayer and contemplating different ways to consider what God is doing in any given passage.  Asking one’s self questions and searching for the answers in prayer while seeking the wise counsel of a more experienced mature Christian is a great way to live in the “Priesthood of the Believer”. (1 Peter 2:5, 9) This type of personal study can stand alone or be used by the group for each week’s prior preparation.
2. PARTICIPATIVE/ACTIVE – This is a form of Inductive Bible Study because it is asking verbally what someone could write down but the encouragement is to actively talk in the class’ study. What exactly is happening in this particular Bible story? Who are the main characters in this story? What are some truths of God that are revealed in this passage? Which truth do you think is the main truth? How do you see God speaking to our world today through this passage? How can we apply these truths to our lives today? Get them talking by answering questions and eventually formulating their own questions. You can find future leaders/teachers in the class as someone begins participating and maturing in the class. Of course the teacher mentoring his class should always be prepared through the study of related biblical commentaries to add content to the class’ participation.
3. STORYING – This is the use of mayor chronological stories of the Bible to story the Word of God instead of reading or carrying out active class participation because the listeners are illiterate, semi-illiterate and/or use storying as an indigenous method of sharing information or historical lifestyle. These stories are memorized and told without using the literal word or visual aids with vocabulary. But visual aids with symbols such as pictures, drawings or handicrafts can help.
1 Thessalonians 5:16-18, “16 Rejoice evermore.  17 Pray without ceasing.  18 In everything give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.”
